Boulton’s to supply 5,000 trees alongside Queen’s Green Canopy initiative

The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative to “plant a tree for the Jubilee” is being supported by Boulton’s Nurseries.

The nursery, based in Staffordshire, is supplying 5,000 potted trees to National Trust plant centres and independent garden centres to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee and Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.

The trees will be from the British native collection, grown in peat-free compost, and will each carry a special edition plant label bearing the Latin name and commemorating the occasion.

Adrian Roughton, Assistant Manager at Boulton’s, said: “The Platinum Jubilee is especially important to a lot of people and will also encourage more planting of trees. I hope the Queen’s Green Canopy provides an opportunity for the younger generation to get involved.

“We’ve chosen native trees because many have been cut down over the years, so it’s time we made a real effort to get them back into the ecosystem, as native wildlife is genetically attracted to them. They are the background plants that make everything work; for example, bees depend upon willow flowering early.”

Established in 1895, Boulton’s is a British institution, which supplies a variety of trees and plants to organisations such as the National Trust. The move will support the Trust’s ambition to establish 20 million trees by 2030.

Boulton’s trees are available to order now, ready for immediate planting (providing there is adequate watering during dry periods) or can be kept until October when tree planting for the Queen’s Green Canopy officially starts, through to the end of the Jubilee year.

To get involved, you can purchase one of the special edition Jubilee trees from a National Trust plant centre, or click here for more information about the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative also supports Ancient Woodlands

As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.

Gift a tree for the Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a not-for-profit initiative that will also raise funds towards planting trees and creating green spaces in deprived urban areas and schools across the UK.

Why not gift a tree in memory of someone? The gift will also help communities in deprived urban areas and enable schools to have access to green spaces.
