From Integrated Pest Management to bio security procedures and our very own Nature Watch team, Boultons Nurseries takes plant health seriously.

Here at Boultons Nurseries, we use a variety of tried and tested processes to ensure we produce happy plants.

The majority of our annual production is propagated from our own extensive range of stock plants located at our nursery and surrounding field production sites. We also work closely with other reputable nurseries in the UK to provide us with specialist plants to supplement our range. Find out more about propagation here.

Integrated Pest Management

Integrated Pest Management (IPM), also known as integrated pest control (IPC), is used throughout our growing process by utilising environmentally-friendly biological controls instead of a reliance on pesticides.

Parasites, pathogens, and predators (which are acknowledged as a naturally beneficial method) are introduced to the nursery to control pests and diseases that would otherwise cause damage and subsequent waste.

We have healthy populations of newts, frogs, toads and other wildlife, which we encourage and re-home when they are not where we’d like them to be. Newts and frogs are prodigious slug-eating machines and are very beneficial to us!

From years of experience, we have developed effective processes which engineer out poor conditions that favour pest and disease. At Boultons we prefer a sustainable approach to growing and follow the natural growing timetable, instead of using artificial heat and light to force plant development, which increases vulnerability to pests and diseases.

ICM is also about looking after your local environment and habitats to support and promote larger predators such as native birds and bats. We have our own Nature Watch team who tirelessly manage our hedges, bird and bat boxes, bug hotels and newt cottages.
